To design a Virtual Reality pop-up that extends virtual environments and enhances user experience.
The brief was to create an out of home experience for a VR World pop-up, centred around a wider gaming event. The design is for an on demand experience for Virtual Reality users to test new ways of immersing themselves into gaming.
With the aim of building a virtual reality experience on a larger scale in the near future, the VR World pop-up brief enabled us to design visual environments that will enhance user experience.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Research shows that virtual reality experiences are moving towards futuristic gaming experiences, shaped around an increasingly minimalist aesthetic.
However, the surge in vintage gaming trends highlights the relevance of retro gaming as defining of gaming DNA. Whilst resonating with older crowds, new gamers are being introduced to Super Mario World and Pacman through recently released revivals released by the franchise.
The environment created taps into the iconic Super Mario World, which has had a massive impact on the gaming industry and will continue to grow. Moving through environments inspired by Pac Man and Minecraft appeal to a wide spectrum gamers, and bring the virtual world outside of the headset.
The design bridges the gap between traditional gaming and future technologies.
TREND FORECASTS 2017/2018
The birds eye view shows the pathway through a Pacman neon lit walkway. The first room is Mario inspired, with iconic coins and pods where people can experience virtual reality enhances by simulators.
The Minecraft room will be a more relaxed, ‘chill out’ zone that introduces new experiences through educational interfaces and drawing software like Tilt Brush/Quill/Gravity sketch.
The walls will have screens projected onto them with animated visuals which the viewers can interact with and post on social media.
